HELP US SET THE FUTURE FREE.
FIVE YEARS AGO,
The Flea did something unheard of.
We didn't simply change leadership.
We refounded our mission.
TODAY,
Black, brown, and queer artists come to 20 Thomas Street to gather their community and make performances that couldn't exist anywhere else. Every rehearsal, workshop, reading, symposium, resident company convening, house party, and opening night happens because this building exists—and because artists know it belongs to them.
NOW,
we’re ready for the next act.
It’s time for The Flea to be mortgage-free.
A generous partner will match 50% of every Burn the Debt gift made before December 31, 2026.
Why Give?
Paying off our debt means every dollar we earn moving forward can work for artists instead of the mortgage. It means protecting one of the last independent homes for experimental performance in New York.
The Match Has Been Struck.
What Happens When We Do?
When the mortgage is gone, we're going to burn it.
In the tradition of African American mortgage burnings, we'll gather together, light the match, and celebrate what liberation feels like.
WILL YOU HELP US BRING THE HEAT?
This building has held thousands of artists. Now let's make sure it belongs to them well into the future.
Give to Burn the Debt. See you at the bonfire.
