In Her House

Presented by The Liminal Theatre Collective

The Pete Theater
August 1, 2025

Set in May of 2020, during the height of the pandemic, In Her House follows four siblings of half-Igbo descent as they return to their childhood home to clear their late mother’s belongings. With only two days to pack up a lifetime of accumulation, they must navigate not only the physical task but also the emotional weight of grief and the shifting dynamics between them. As memories resurface, long-buried secrets and simmering resentments come to light, forcing each of them to confront their relationships with one another, their mother’s complex legacy, and the fragile space between accountability and unconditional love.

This soulful new play with music is written and directed by TLTC Artistic Director Azudi Onyejekwe (Violet, Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812) and is the second production in The Liminal Theatre Collective’s Liminal Lab series, a creative incubator for bold new work by emerging artists of color. Featuring choreography by Jelani Winston (BET’s “American Soul”), In Her House invites audiences into an intimate family reckoning that asks: When the person who held everything together is gone, what remains … and how do we carry her forward?
