TOSOS presents

Leaving The Blues

January 16 - February 8, 2020
Tickets are $30*
The Siggy
2 hours 20 minutes

Hop onto an imaginary train of memories with famed African-American blues and jazz singer and songwriter Alberta Hunter as she follows her long-dead friend, black comedian Bert Williams (Will), now her glad-handed guide and conductor. He has promised to stir up enough memories of her past successes, friends, and loves to encourage her return to the music she left some twenty years past in the late 1950s. Hunter’s life story, rife with danger, uncertainty, heartbreak, and triumph lays bare the tension that our racial and sexual histories create inside all of us and the danger that history has been and can be to our ability to love.

*All tickets include an additional $2 Theater Restoration Fee, which keeps the lights on in our new digs.

WAITLIST POLICY:

For sold-out performances, waitlists will begin 1.5 hours prior to the performance; we will begin releasing any available tickets approximately 5 minutes prior to the performance. You must be present to claim your waitlist ticket.

TOSOS (The Other Side of Silence) is New York City’s oldest professional LGBTQ+ theater. In 1974, Off-Off Broadway veteran Doric Wilson (1939-2011), cabaret star Billy Blackwell and director Peter dell Valle, started the first professional gay theatre company in NYC. It was called The Other Side of Silence; TOSOS for short. In 2002, directors Mark Finley and Barry Childs and playwright Wilson resurrected TOSOS. The company has produced over 30 mainstage shows and so many readings of new plays and works in progress we have trouble counting them all. www.tososnyc.org
