At The Flea: A.R. Gurney’s O, Jerusalem. Born in Kolkata, India. Training: Royal Court Youth Theatre, London. U.S. theatre credits include Tony Kushner’s Homebody/Kabul at NYTW, Mark Taper Forum and BAM. David Greig’s The American Pilot for MTC (Drama Desk Nomination) and Lorca’s The House of Bernarda Alba at Mark Taper Forum. In addition she has worked in several Lincoln Center Director’s Lab seasons and is a frequent reader at Symphony Space. In 1990 she and writer Rukhsana Ahmad co-founded Kali Theatre company in London whose goal is to encourage, develop, produce and promote the work of South Asian women playwrights. Kali recently celebrated it’s 20 year anniversary and has produced countless new plays in that time. Rita is a Manhattan veteran and has raised her two children, Kiran and Anjeli in the city.
